NEAT Microphones King Bee II Review — Budget XLR broadcast sounding microphone
In this week’s episode, we have a look at and a listen to the NEAT Microphones King Bee II. This large diaphragm condenser microphone has an XLR output and has a rich, broadcast style sound for spoken word audio such as for podcasts, live streams, interviews, etc. Its self-noise is very low, almost on part with the RODE NT1 which is one of the best in the market. We include some raw samples so you can hear the microphone directly out of the recorder without any processing.
If you’d like to learn how to make great dialogue audio for your film and video projects, please have a look at my courses including processing dialogue audio in Adobe Audition and DaVinci Resolve/Fairlight, recording sound, how to use the Zoom F4, F6, F8, and F8n, and how to get the most from the Sound Devices MixPre series of recorders. Sound for Video Session: Jem Schofield on Hiring Sound Mixers
This week we're joined by Jem Schofield! You may know him as an Oregon based DP and producer, or as the creator of camera focused (obsessed?) YouTube channel The C47 and his weekly live stream Camera & Flask, with photographer Ben Bardem and fellow YouTuber Caleb Pike. What you may not know is that he has also produced content for for brands as big as Apple, ARRI, and Sony, just to name a few, not to mention his own camera and lighting eLearning courses for LinkedIn Learning. We're going to start this conversation asking Jem how he chooses a sound mixer when producing his larger productions. Learn more about Jem and his work: Jem's production company, YouTube channel, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Sound for Video Session: Post Sound with Midge Costin
In this week's Sound for Video Session, we are joined by Midge Costin. Before joining the faculty of USC's School of Cinematic Arts, Ms. Costin worked on the sound design of some of the biggest films of the 90s, including The Rock, Crimson Tide, and Armageddon! (The latter two receiving Academy Award nominations for Sound Editing.) She is a member of both the Motion Picture Sound Editors and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She is also a filmmaker in her own right, having recently produced and directed a film that I'm a big fan of, and I suspect a large number of you are with me on this. That film is, of course, "Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound". Learn more about Midge's film, "Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound". You can stream Making Waves on Amazon and YouTube. Follow Making Waves on Twitter and Instagram. You can find Midge's IMDB profile here.
